Forgotten Island Megaways Review
Microgaming must have been happy with All41’s debut Megaways slot, Shamrock Holmes Megaways, as the studio has been given a second chance with the gorilla themed Forgotten Island Megaways. They have not taken too many chances with this follow-up title either, but the 2 games are very different both in terms of theme and features.
The only element of innovation you’ll find here is the Kong Spin feature. However, it does make the base game far more unpredictable and interesting than what many Megaways engine games offer. The Kong Spin “multiplier jump” can even spill over into the bonus round, and set you off to a flying start towards untold riches. This is a strong second game in most respects, but pretty soon we’ll start to expect even more innovation and novelty.

The Compass wild will step in for all regular symbols here, and thus help you form winning combos. The Rolling Reels mechanic comes into play after every win, and it removes winning symbols from the reels. This is sometimes called Cascading Reels or Wins, as new symbols drop down to give you a new winning chance.

This can lead to plenty of wins on the same spin, as the feature goes on as long as you keep winning. What makes it even more interesting however, is the Kong Spin Feature. Any winning spin can trigger the gorilla on the left-hand side, and this will apply a win multiplier starting at either 2x, 3x, 5x or 10x.
Each Rolling Reels win you land from that point forward will increase the progressive multiplier by +1. There is no upper limit to this feature, but the multiplier will be removed once you land a non-winning cascade. You can trigger the bonus round from a Kong Spin also, and this means that the current multiplier is carried over into the bonus round.
You trigger the free spins round by landing at least 4 of the Kong scatter symbol anywhere in sight on the same spin. This gives you 10 free spins, but you also get 2 extra spins per extra scatter you land above the minimum of 4.
You will start with the progressive win multiplier at 2x, unless it’s carried over from a base game Kong Spin. The feature plays out pretty much like the Kong Spins, and the multiplier will increase by +1 for each Rolling Reel win. The difference is, of course, that the multiplier value does not reset between spins in the bonus round. You will also get 4 extra spins when you land 4 scatters anywhere on the same free spin.
Unless you live in the UK, or any other jurisdiction with such restrictions, you can purchase the bonus round via the bonus buy feature. You can choose between 3 different options as follows:
- Pay 80x and get 10 spins with the multiplier starting at 2x.
- Pay 120x and get 10 spins with the multiplier starting at 3x or 5x.
- Pay 150x and get 10 spins with the multiplier starting at 5x or 10x.
When you buy either of the 2 most expensive bonus rounds, the respective starting multiplier values will spin to determine which one you get.
The 200 Spins Forgotten Island Megaways Experience
Before we purchase the bonus round, you can see the Kong Spin multiplier increase as the gorilla beats his chest proudly. The free spins buy feature starts around 0.37 into the video, and we went with the most expensive option. Which of the starting multipliers we got however (5x or 10x), can be seen by hitting the play button. We had a pretty successful bonus round run here, hence a longer than usual highlights video.
Review Summary
All41 Studios does not stray too far from the standard Megaways formula with Forgotten Island Megaways. It’s understandable that they are still testing the waters with their second release in the genre, and playing it somewhat safe with a familiar theme and features.
The Microgaming partner has plenty of time after all, and can experiment more in the future. The Kong Spin feature is somewhat innovative though, and it can jump-start your Rolling Reels multiplier run quite significantly both in the base game and in the bonus round. It adds a layer of unpredictability to the whole win multiplier concept, which is nice. The 7,000x potential is not as impressive as the Megaways debut slot however, but it can be landed on a single spin here.
Pros
- Kong Spins multiplier jump-start up to 10x
- Bonus round with unlimited win multiplier
- Land up to 7,000x on a single spin
Cons
- Max bet of £20 is not unusual for this genre, but still low
